Rim Jhim Song Lyrics and Translation
From the movie – 1942 A Love Story
rim jhim rim jhim rum jhum rum jhum
pitter-patter…
bhigi bhigi rut mein tum ham ham tum
in the wet, wet season, you and i, i and you…
chalte hain chalte hain
we walk, we walk.
bajtaa hai jaltarang par ke chhat pe jab
the harmonica plays, while on the roof,
motiyon jaisa jal barasaaye
water pours down like pearls.
buundon ki yeh jhadi laayi hai vo ghadi
the drops of this rainshower have brought that moment
jiske liye ham tarase
for which we have yearned.
bajataa hai jalatarang par ke chhat pe jab
the harmonica plays, while on the roof,
motiyon jaisa jal barasaae
water pours down like pearls.
buundon ki yeh jhadi laayi hai vo ghadi
the drops of this rainshower have brought that moment
jiske liye ham tarase
for which we have yearned.
baadal ki chaadarein odhi hain vaadiyaan
sheets of clouds have wrapped around the valleys;
saari dishaayein soyi hain
the world sleeps.
sapanon ke gaaon mein bhigi si chhaanv (chaao) mein
in the damp shadows of dream villages,
do aatmaaein khoyi hain
two souls are lost.
baadal ki chaadarein odhe hain vaadiyaan
sheets of clouds have wrapped around the valleys;
saari dishaayein soyi hain
the world sleeps.
sapanon ke gaaon mein bhigi si chhaanv (chaao) mein
in the damp shadows of dream villages,
do aatmaaein khoi hain
two souls are lost.
aayi hain dekhne jhilon ke aayine
they have come to see the mirrors made by the pools;
baalon ko khole ghataaein
the lowering clouds open cracks (in them).
raahein dhuaan dhuaan jaaeinge ham kahaan
paths of smoke, smoke; where shall we go?
aayo yahin rah jaaein
come, we shall remain here.
aayi hain dekhne jhilon ke aayine
they have come to see the mirrors made by the pools
baalon ko khole ghataaein
the lowering clouds open cracks (in them).
raahein dhuaan dhuaan jaaenge ham kahaan
paths of smoke, smoke; where shall we go?
aayo yahin rah jaaein
come, let’s remain here.
